Content Creation

1. Imagination is the Key to Profitable Content Creation in VR

As many before us have mentioned. Virtual Reality Soft and Hard (ware) has been around for many years. The year 2016 has been a media boom for the market.Technology is gaining ground and offering opportunities to creators and users that were never readily apparent or accessible.

2. What do we know about VR?

We know VR's future can't be predicted.

We know VR has more then just gaming to offer.
We know VR has and is passing massive technical hurdles.

We know VR will be influencing our everyday life.
We know VR is on a
media boom

We know VR will require a commitment amongst industry leaders to press forward.
We know VR will require "THINKERS" first, not entrepreneur's driven for profit.

Highly skilled and trained animators will play
pivotal roles in VR gameplay and more.

3. Niche industries like Ticketmaster need to play close attention too........What?

The virtual reality company NextVR has already recorded concerts, like this one by Coldplay, in virtual reality. The company has partnered with Live Nation to begin live streaming VR concerts this summer. (NextVR/Facebook)

Brad Allen is the executive chairman of NextVR. He agrees nothing will replace being there in person. His opinion, people may forego the physical reality of being present at a concert to avoid such things as parking, food, expenses, etc.

It is very easy to get drawn into basic ideas for VR that may seem viable and profitable. Ticketmaster for instance is a perfect example. They are now taping concerts abroad and locally for VR distribution. This may be profitable but it will take a wider broad based approach. Corporations like Ticketmaser are doing nothing out of the ordinary. A VR taped concert serves to share an experience which encompasses all our senses but it can only provide visuals and sound as a means of experience. Agreed, VR visuals & sound are more expansive then TV. The issue lies in developing proper laid out content formats which address all the things that make concerts great. Ticketmaster concerts in VR can be more interactive if .........

Tip#1

Have each and every performer address the VR crowd as well as the regular crowd during concerts.

This will give the user that extra added experience.

Tip#2

Ticketmaster should have a small or large venue setup for users who want an even more immersive experience. Just like the thousands that stand outside a sporting event (staring at monitors).

So too, should people be offered the opportunity to experience Ticketmaster Concerts in a closed environment which can embody the experience with more intensity and ferocity then ever imagined. This is what will continue VR in the future. The immersive experience goes further then the technology.

These venues should encompass, special VR tickets, special seats, temperature controls, food areas, identical retail goods for sale can be sold at VR concerts. This is the future of VR for Ticketmaster.

Tip#3

Just like extras on a DVD. Special VR taped sessions of each group/performer in studio during rehearsals would be a welcome addition to regular streaming content when in concert

Thinking Beyond for VR Content Creation

4. Why do you see rhythm or beauty in shapes?

Is the answer in mathematics? Is the answer in genes?
Is the answer in past biological states?
Is there an answer that will satisfy all of humanity?

We can say without a doubt that words like rhythm and beauty
will never be able to explain our existing universe.
To ask the question is too realize one does not know.
A nation or a world of multiple universes who all believe
that the question is the key to answers.
The key is lying right in front of you.

It is not math, it is not genes,
it is not past biological states.
It is the un foreseeable, the brain pattern seeker always looking alter visuals into a coherent form of explanations?
We need to go beyond what we know as the regular explanations.
Are we following a virtual script in a play.
Are we a piece of music for the pianist.
Are we the rattling of a broken hub in a wheel.
The answers to questions such as we posed at the
beginning of this talk are just full of things telling our brain they exist.
Yes, they exist but they only exist in our mind.
Remember, imagination is all we have.
Imagination is where our “physics” world comes from.
People have forgotten we evolved from what looked like “hunch backed apes”.

We survived for a reason and evolved into the ultimate predator.
People were getting eaten for millions of years.
They were feed, just like the chickens, cows and fish of today.
Chickens, cows and fish, even entire animal kingdoms are shown in a cartoony or realistic fashion “talking” “behaving like us” “in our world”.

These depictions are so ridiculous, they are humour for humanity.
Feedstock animals of today are what we were millions of years ago.

Could our imagination & our biology be having a battle of the mind?
Worlds of other ruling biology did exist throughout the ages.
Our representation of them is by words. These words attached to the visuals. ie a chicken does not entirely represent
the idea being spoken of here but rather the possibilities.

One should study all aspects of our humanity with an open mind when trying to create meaningful VR content.

Acting For Animation

Animators need to be open minded thinkers with sharp executing thoughts and applications of ideas and methodologies.
The workbooks and guides for animation have been great but a new world is here.
We have progressed very far. Just like the old university’s we need a new text book.
A new view. Something that goes beyond the normal standards.

Ed Hooks is a great trainer for acting.

Here is an excerpt from his training modules.
Why "special" acting training for animators?
Animators do not need to work on sensory exercises, physical relaxation, emotional recall or voice development, all essential for stage actors acting “in the present moment.” Animators must create an illusion of a present moment – 24 frames = 1 second. To envision and create this illusion requires an entirely different set of skills (see video).

Everything he mentioned above is true with exception of the physical relaxation component.
A calm relaxed mindset is required before even attempting to start your animation.
Ed is not saying anything revolutionary. The illusion of life "disney book" is exactly
what it says it is. How to create the illusion of life within 24 frames.

I believe this new standard involves combining neuroscience, physics & acting.
Acting for animation is the one thing that separates a good animator from a great one.
I believe you are what you value and this value drives your behaviour.
Many styles & disciplines of animation are open to interpretation.
After over 10 years of animating. I still get a curious nervous excitement before each shot I attempt to work on. These nerves must be interpreted as calm motivation.
A pleasant push to go further and push the limits of your animation at each and every turn.
We are a rather unique industry which is looked upon by a majority of the mainstream as “successful”.
I believe animation success is a culmination of intelligent study, application, testing and repetition.
In a work environment, most animators are asked for gargantuan requests in terms of delivering animation in a timely and quality driven fashion. Most, if you look at them are calm, mild mannered types….”maybe". One thing they share is the ability to control each sector of thinking and combine it all into one. They are constantly challenged everyday just like any CEO of a corporation without having to actually over see a multitude of people. The animator oversee's technical software issues combined with artistry & acting in each and every piece they work on. This connection is as real as my arm. By assessing the thought process involved in memorization techniques we can see that visuals play a huge role in the success of an animator. Memory is the key to your success in every way. If an animator thinks about acting. How is that relating to memory?. We are taking in more senses then the average person and assessing either the reality in front of us or the one in our mind. We as animators know, we must observe more closely then other people. We must take time to assess situations more then the average person. In our modern day of animation, Observation has been overlooked.
Memory & Observation go hand in hand.
We must pull up reference images in our mind, pull up reference material to study, tape ourselves acting or take time to go out and observe people in real time.
Will Eisner the highly reputable artist, multi award winner was a master of observation. He was able to pull out acting, life, energy, every essence of what we in the general public observed but took no time to assess it. This is the beauty of what Eisner did. He could pull a thought out of an image and take it too all new highs of descriptive visuals.

By definition, rote learning or memorization from repetition = comprehension, by itself it is an ineffective tool in mastering any complex subject at an advanced level. For instance, one illustration of repetition learning can be observed in preparing quickly for exams, a technique which may be colloquially referred to as "cramming”.
There is a greater understanding if students commit a formula to memory through exercises that use the formula rather than through rote repetition of the formula. We as animators are always process driven vs repetition driven.
To achieve greater acting results on a daily basis, an animator needs to seek proven formula's within cognitive neuroscience.
